SCHOOL TIME

IN history I learn about Rome and math is  fun mom is my teacher. 4+10=14. MALLORY IS 1. School is fun long and cool. Marcus is on a class cunekt. Mom is cool and nice.

school and Halloween plans

In school I like history because I am learning about Rome. About Halloween I am going to be a butterfly and Mallory is going to be a ladybug. We are doing a garden theme.  My daddy might         
be a rain cloud. My mommy is going to be a flower. My brother is going to be a "dandy" lion. And the end.  

Art for school

The last thing we did on our first day of school today was art. Phew! We made it. Anyway, Anneke was supposed to draw a picture of pretty much anything she wanted and then add color.

This is what she drew:

 She kept asking me if mermaids were real.

Marcus's lesson was, of course, a little more involved. He loves art, so it is as it should be I guess. Anyway, he needed to draw 2 things. The first was a self portrait and then anything he wanted. After a couple of hours he had drawn his sister, Anneke.

Apparently it is not normal to have a child that draws on any piece of paper with a blank space. I am only just realizing this because Anneke and Luke aren't as interested. It is silly how much I just don't realize because I have Marcus as my oldest child.

T-shirts

I got t-shirts at Joann's so the kids could decorate them. They still haven't chosen that particular activity from the boredom jar, but we did it anyway and I learned a few things.

I had puff paints and fabric markers they could use. Two of the artists:

 The finished product (See how it is pulling down on the left? it is the sheer weight of the puff paint he used causing that.)

 Anneke's shirt blew away while it was drying outside so it smudged on the bottom:

 Marcus only used the markers and did both sides of his shirt:

 Lessons I learned? First, make sure they use paint brushes with the puff paints. Have them design the shirts before marking on them. AND supervise. (I suggested it and was in the middle of something. By the time I came over they were finished, except Marcus.)

Anneke and Luke Speak

Hi. I am 7 now.  My birthday was on pioneer day. I had a party. I have a new doll and I named her Annabelle. We are going to go shopping and buy her some new clothes. Have a good day.

Fan Art

We love the illustrator Aaron Zenz. He wrote and illustrated Hiccupotomus and Chuckling Ducklings. Marcus sent him a picture he drew and a short letter. He got this in response.

I wish I had the original to show along side. That would be fun.

Making Candy

Anneke wanted to make candy. Each child picked out some candy melts. It was quick and apparently quite yummy.

Luke chose orange.

 Anneke chose pink.

 Marcus chose chocolate.

The end results were lions, tigers, elephants and monkeys to share with friends.

Veggie Soup

I made the soup for lunch.

(At Uncle Jeff's house Anneke picked veggies from his garden for the purpose of making soup. She talked about making it with her best friend, but poor Madi is sick. Anneke peeled, cut and diced it all herself. It tasted pretty good. She had zucchini, carrots, peas, green beans and green onions.)

Haircut

"I am going to get my hair cut for your birthday, Daddy." And she did.

(Side note: she keeps asking me if she looks like me. I asked her if she wanted to look like me and she said, "Yes, you are beautiful." It is hard for me to see that. I responded that many people think she looks like me and she was happy about that. My lesson in all of this is that I need to love myself so my children will love themselves.)

Animals Don't Do...

Hippos don't eat at the buffet, and elephants don't wear t-shirts.

Also, you'll never see a giraffe wearing a skirt. Bears don't ride in double decker buses

and goats don't comb beards. But you could see a monkey acting all weird.

Pigs never take baths, and alligators don't skate.

You'll never see a fish baking cake. You'll never notice a painting tortoise.

Lion's don't give hugs and lizards don't snug.

I'd never sleep with a slug. A rabbit won't ever sing Home on the Range.

And piranhas don't bike. No bugs flying kites will ever appear, no matter what year.

Snakes don't read

and spiders don't write words. But especially words like

General Conference

The boys used the cardboard from their posters to make pictures.

This is a picture he drew of his dad. (The circles are to make sure he doesn't get out.)

This one was sweet and brought tears to my eyes.
